Etymology: L, ultra, beyond, sonus, sound
a display of ultrasonic echoes in which the horizontal axis of the visual display represents the time required for the return of the echo and the vertical axis represents the strength of the echo. The mode is used in echoencephalography. See also A-mode.
In ultrasonography a display in which imaging data are represented as echo amplitudes (on the y-axis) and time (on the x-axis), similar to the way electromagnetic waves are represented on an oscilloscope.Synonym: A-mode; A-mode (amplitude modulation) display
