ADAMTSac2

An ADAMTSs family enzyme encoded by ADAMTS2 on chromosome 5qter which removes N-terminal propeptides of collagen types 1, 2 and 5 before fibril assembly. ADAMTS2 mutations have been linked to Ehlers-Danlos syndrome type VIIC and to bovine dermatosparaxis. ADAMTS2 is expressed in monocytes and macrophages, and expression can be induced in osteosarcoma cells by TGF-beta.

A disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs (ADAMTSs) are secreted, extracellular enzymes with a compound domain organization [1].
ADAM family proteinases (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase) and ADAMTS (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs) are also associated, being involved in a large spectrum of activities, such as fertilization, development, and carcinogenesis [29].
Recently, a new molecular substance has garnered much interest, namely, a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs (ADAMTS).
