A&E DischargeA UK term for the conclusion of a patient’s attendance or series of attendances at an A&E department related to a specific complaint, which is "closed out" by the consultant or his representative. A&E discharge is usually formal, i.e. the consultant makes the decision on medical grounds. Non-attendance by the patient of scheduled follow-up treatments within a certain time frame—as defined by local policy—constitutes an informal discharge.
