yerba maté,
an herbal product taken from an evergreen tree belonging to the holly family that is native to parts of South America.
uses This herb is used as a diuretic and depurative.
contraindications Yerba maté should not be used during pregnancy and lactation, in children, or in those with anxiety disorders, hypertension, or known hypersensitivity to this plant.

n Latin name:
Ilex paraguariensis; parts used: dried leaves and stems; uses: diuretic, antioxidant, vasodilator, antiobesity agent, stimulant, depression, constipation, arthritis, diabetes, gastrointestinal conditions, urinary tract complaints, kidney stones, bladder stones, cardiac insufficiency; precautions: pregnancy, lactation, children; patients with anxiety conditions, high blood pressure; may cause insomnia, restlessness, nausea, hepatotoxicity, possibly carcinogenic when used for long periods. Also called
armino, Bartholomew's tea, boca juniors, campeche, el agricultor, elacy, flor de lis, gaucho, jaguar, Jesuit's tea, la hoja, la mulata, la tranquera, lonjazo, madrugada, maté, nobleza gaucha, oro verde, Paraguay tea, payadito, rosamonte, safira, union, yi-yi, or
