An indication of Marfan's syndrome in which the thumb and fifth finger overlap appreciably when the wrist is gripped with the opposite hand.

Rheumatology A finding in Pts with Marfan and other heritable connective tissue disorders characterized by thinned distal extremities; the WS is positive if the distal phalanges of the thumb and 5th finger overlap when encircling the opposite wrist. See Marfan syndrome.

The thumb sign (positive when the thumb protrudes beyond the confines of the clenched fist) and the wrist sign (positive when the thumb and fifth finger overlap when the opposite wrist is grasped proximal to the styloid process of the radius) were also evaluated.
