whiskers 1. the coarse, long, widely spaced sensory hairs located around the muzzle of most animal species. See also sinus hair. 2. superficial fungal growth found on chilled meat carcasses and caused by infection with Mucor and Thamnidium spp. fungi. Cause no significant damage to the meat but may cause a musty smell. |
