On the approach to Samburu, which is a semi-desert park, camels graze on spiky bushes and more of the locals wear Muslim garb, and a sample of the wildlife in the area emerges: Impala, a Martial Eagle, Waterbuck, Gerenuks, Red-billed Hornbills, Elephants, Reticulated Giraffes and some Eastern Chanting Goshawks.
Less than 15 km from the town is the Albert Falls sanctuary, where one can see the rhino, giraffe, kudu and waterbuck against the backdrop of the Albert Falls Dam.
In all we drove for 10 hours, spotting mongoose, warthogs, ostrich, waterbuck, giant termite mounds, crocodiles, turtles, vultures, the secretary bird, a tawny eagle in her nest, geranuk (a giraffe-necked gazelle) impala and kudu (types of antelope).
