vulture a large bird of prey in the order Falconiformes. In two major groups, the Old World vultures (family Accipitridae, subfamily Aegypiinae) and the New World vultures (family Cathartidae). The former include the Egyptian black (Aegypius monachus) and griffon (Gypius fulvus) vultures.
