acrylonitrile /ac·ry·lo·ni·trile/ (ak″rĭ-lo-ni´trīl) a colorless halogenated hydrocarbon used in the making of plastics and as a pesticide; its vapors are irritant to the respiratory tract and eyes, may cause systemic poisoning, and are carcinogenic.
