polypeptide /poly·pep·tide/ (-pep´tīd) a peptide containing more than two amino acids linked by peptide bonds. vasoactive intestinal polypeptide a hormone that has vasoactive properties, stimulates intestinal secretion of water and electrolytes, inhibits gastric secretion, promotes glycogenolysis, causes hyperglycemia, and stimulates production of pancreatic juice.
vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP), a glucagon-secretin hormone found in the pancreas, intestine, and central nervous system. The hormone stimulates insulin and glucagon release.
