Ultimate Fighting A modern sport in which 2 combatants fight each other. In the 1990s, matches were held without rounds or rest periods, and fought to incapacitation or surrender, in which one opponent would be battered into submission, and signal abdication by a so-called ‘tap-out’ signal to the referee. These rules prevailed until US authorities cracked down, resulting in major changes in the rules in 2000
