tympanic reflex,
the reflection of a beam of light shining on the eardrum. In a normal ear a bright, wedge-shaped reflection is seen. Its apex is at the end of the malleus, and its base is at the anterior inferior margin of the eardrum. In disorders of the middle ear or eardrum, this shape may be distorted.
