tusk
the well-developed canine tooth in the male pig and similar large projecting teeth in some wild species. They are open-rooted so that they continue to grow. The upper and lower ones in the pig have growth directions that brings them together in such a way that they sharpen each other as the jaws move. Elephant tusks are modified incisor teeth, with the ivory being dentine.
