turgescence /tur·ges·cence/ (ter-jes´ens) swelling.
swelling [swel´ing] 1. transient abnormal enlargement of a body part or area not due to cell proliferation; see also edema. Called also tumefaction, tumescence, and turgescence. 2. eminence. cloudy swelling a term formerly used for an early stage of toxic degeneration of protein constituents of organs in infectious diseases, when the tissues appear swollen and opaque but revert to normal when the cause is removed.
