trituration /trit·ur·a·tion/ (trich″ĕ-ra´shun) 1. reduction to powder by friction or grinding. 2. a drug so created, especially one rubbed up with lactose. 3. the creation of a homogeneous whole by mixing, as the combining of particles of an alloy with mercury to form dental amalgam.
Trituration The process of diluting a nonsoluble substance for homeopathic use by grinding it to a fine powder and mixing it with lactose powder. Mentioned in: Homeopathic Medicine, Acute Prescribing trituration, the process of removing impurities from a substance by grinding it under a solvent in which the impurities are much more soluble than the substance itself. See also tripsis. trituration (tri·ch n the initial steps during the creation of homeopathic remedies based on a source material that is solid or insoluble. This source material is ground together with lactose. Further potentization of the resulting liquid can be accomplished by dissolving it in water accompanied by vigorous shaking.
