an agent destructive to Trichomonas vaginalis, a parasitic protozoan flagellate that causes a refractory type of vaginitis, cystitis, and urethritis. Metronidazole is used in the treatment of women with trichomoniasis and their asymptomatic partners. trichomonacidal, adj.
