Etymology: Gk, trauma, wound, thrombos, lump, osis, condition intravascular coagulation of a vein or other blood vessel after injury or irritation. The condition may develop as an adverse effect of an IV injection that damages the wall of a vein. See also thrombophlebitis. Effort Thrombosis A blood clot that forms within a vessel—e.g., an axillary vein—of a muscle group which was subjected to strenuous exercise.
