Ted Kulongoski has signed House Bill 2365 prohibiting the selling or distribution of toylike "novelty" lighters.
We also get to see the instruments Darwin took on his voyage on the Beagle, including a tiny toylike pistol to ward off robbers; hairs from his beard; letters from his father warning that joining the Beagle would make him seem 'a disreputable character' unsuitable for the clergy; and Darwin's list outlining the pros and cons of marriage.
And these may be productively compared to the artist's stuffed-animal sculptures, which are often presented on low pedestals fashioned to look like the kind of cardboard box in which one might take home the latest Hermes or Yves Saint Laurent, even as the creatures' innocent, toylike appearance conjures associations with childhood.
