tomograph /to·mo·graph/ (-graf) an apparatus for moving an x-ray source in one direction as the film is moved in the opposite direction, thus showing in detail a predetermined plane of tissue while blurring or eliminating detail in other planes.
tomograph [tō′məgraf′] Etymology: Gk, tome, section, graphein, to record a radiographic apparatus that makes an image of layers of body tissues at various depths. tomograph (tō´m n a radiograph produced while rotating the film and radiograph source in opposite directions around an axis located in the region of interest. This movement blurs outside structures while maintaining sharpness in the region of interest. tomograph an apparatus in which the x-ray tube and film are moved in opposite directions during an exposure so that only a single plane of tissue remains in focus during the exposure.
