toe (to) a digit of the foot.
claw toe  dorsal subluxation of toes 2 through 5, the metatarsal heads bearing weight and becoming painful when walking, resulting in a shuffling gait; occurring in rheumatoid arthritis.
hammer toe  deformity of a toe, most often the second, in which the proximal phalanx is extended and the second and distal phalanges are flexed, giving a clawlike appearance.
Morton's toe  see under neuralgia.
pigeon toe  permanent toeing-in position of the feet.
tennis toe  painful great toe associated with subungual hematoma; so called because it develops usually after vigorous tennis playing.
webbed toes  syndactyly of the toes.

Q. I have a pain in my big toe, what is it? I keep on having shooting pains from my big toe, especially at night. What could it be from?

A. This could be gout. The most common sign of gout is a nighttime attack of swelling, tenderness, redness, and sharp pain in your big toe. You can also get gout attacks in your foot, ankle, or knees. The attacks can last a few days or many weeks before the pain goes away. Another attack may not happen for months or years.
See your doctor even if the pain has gone, for further diagnosing and treatment.

Q. My wife ran a fever 3 days ago. Now has red rash head 2 toe. Her feet r Swelling and she is weak. Any sugg. Any suggestions? She is feeling weak and her feet appear to be swelling.

A. A woman with swelling feet is also suspecting kidney problem because she has only one kidney after her right kidney was removed 24 years ago. She is also diabetic and also taking regular medication for her high blood pressure. Any one of the medications might cause the symptoms. please advise. thanks
