The eldest of four daughters, Alice Reid was born in 1912 and spent her early years at Titoki, near Whangarei, becoming head girl and dux at Whangarei Girls' High School.
Now - three decades later - a UK visitor to the village of Titoki on the Bay of Plenty, on the North Island of New Zealand, has sent a photo of the bell to Peter Sotheran, organiser of the original project to get it out there.
Several of the gardens described and photographed so well are little known outside their own area such as the Titoki Point Garden in New Zealand or Moncks Corner in South Carolina in the U.
