titanium /ti·ta·ni·um/ (ti-ta´ne-um) chemical element, at. no. 22, symbol Ti; used for fixation of fractures and for dental implants.
titanium dioxide  a white powder used as a topical protectant against sunburn, in other protectant preparations, and as a pigment in the manufacture of artificial teeth.

A strong, low-density, highly corrosion-resistant metallic element, used in ultraviolet sunscreens and as a surgical aid to repair fractures. Atomic number 22.

Etymology: Gk, Titan, mythic giant
a grayish brittle metallic element. Its atomic number is 22, and its atomic mass is 47.88. An alloy of titanium is used in the manufacture of orthopedic prostheses. Titanium dioxide is the active ingredient in a number of topical ointments and lotions. Titanium dioxide is one of the whitest substances known and is used as a base pigment in many paints.

n a lightweight, strong, corrosion-resistant chemical element with a white-silver color and metallic luster. Commercially pure titanium and titanium alloys are used in the fabrication of dental implants. Titanium is also used in the manufacture of alloys, such as aluminum and iron, and in powdered form in materials such as graphite composites.
