1. An artery with origin in the popliteal artery, with branches to the posterior and anterior tibial recurrent, lateral and medial anterior malleolar arteries, the dorsal artery of the foot, the lateral tarsal, medial tarsal, arcuate, dorsal metatarsal, and dorsal digital arteries; anterior tibial artery.
2. An artery with origin in the popliteal artery, with branches to the peroneal artery, the nutrient artery of the fibula, the lateral and medial posterior malleolar arteries, the nutrient artery of the tibia, and the medial and lateral plantar arteries; posterior tibial artery.

Upper limbs examined vessels included brachial, radial and ulnar arteries, and popliteal, anterior and posterior tibial arteries from the lower limbs.
Other cases focused on techniques to open complex blockages of the femoral and tibial arteries, which supply blood to the lower limbs.
VPI developed the protocol to study the stent's usage in the tibial arteries below the knee, submitted the protocol application to the FDA for IDE approval, and contracted with a Trial Management Organization, Prairie Education and Research Cooperative (Springfield, IL), to assist with their data collection, evaluation, and reporting of the study results.
