cornu /cor·nu/ (kor´noo) pl. cor´nua [L.] horn. cornu ammo´nis hippocampus. cornu cuta´neum cutaneous horn. sacral cornu , cornu sacra´le either of two hook-shaped processes extending down from the arch of the last sacral vertebra.
cornu (kôr´nōō), n a bony projection. cornu pl. cornua [L.] horn; a hornlike excrescence or projection; a structure that appears horn-shaped, especially in section. See also cornual. cornu ammonis see hippocampus. dorsal cornu the dorsal protuberance of gray matter in the spinal cord. Called also dorsal horn. lateral cornu the lateral projection from the lateral intermediate substance of the spinal cord. It is prominent only in the thoracolumbar parts of the cord. nasal cornu the slender, ventral part of the comma-shaped alar cartilages that make up the support for the rim of the nostril. thyroid cartilage cornu there are rostral and caudal cornua borne on this cartilage. uterine cornu the horns of the uterus. ventral cornu the ventral horn of gray matter in the spinal cord. Contains the motor horn cells for the neurons of the peripheral nerves. |
