thoracolumbosacral orthosis (TLSO)
[thôr′əkōlum′bō sā′krəl]
Etymology: Gk, thorax, chest; L, lumbus, loin + sacrum, sacred
a spinal orthosis that runs from the thoracic spine caudal to the lumbosacral region and thus limits movement of the thoracic and lumbar spine. Different types vary in rigidity and in the kind of support given to the thorax. See also body jacket.
