It has been demonstrated in studies that subjects with mild asthma maintained on inhaled budesonide (1200 [micro]g/day for two years, and then 400 [micro]g/day) had decreased bronchial response to histamine challenge compared with subjects taking inhaled terbutaline (375 [micro]g twice daily), over a 2-year period.
Medications approved by the United States Olympic Committee include B-agonists (aerosol forms only), albuterol, and terbutaline, as well as cromolyn sodium, nedocromil sodium, theophylline, and inhaled corticosteroids.
It was also announced that amateur rugby player Mark Mahony was found to have terbutaline in a specimen collected while playing for Terenure RFC on February 16.
