teicoplanin /tei·co·pla·nin/ (ti-ko-pla´nin) a glycopeptide antibiotic used as a less toxic alternative to vancomycin in the treatment of infections caused by gram-positive bacteria. teicoplanin [ti-ko-pla′nin] a glycopeptide antibiotic produced by the bacterium Actinoplanes teichomyceticus, used as a less toxic alternative to vancomycin in the treatment of moderate to severe infections caused by gram-positive bacteria when other antibiotics cannot be used. teicoplanin a glycopeptide antibiotic, similar to vancomycin, used in the treatment of serious gram-positive infections. teicoplanin Infectious disease An antibiotic that may be effective against teichomycin and vancomycin-resistant–multiply-resistant enterococci.
