A finding in the floor of the orbit—the most common location for orbital fractures—which is characterised as a polypoid mass (the tear-drop, which corresponds to the herniated orbital contents, periorbital fat and inferior rectus muscle, etc.) protruding from the floor of the orbit into the maxillary antrum

Traumatology A clinical finding characterized as an elongated soft-tissue mass that prolapses into the maxillary antrum; the TS may be seen in a plain film of the face in blunt trauma to the anterior rim of the orbit, which may cause a 'blowout' fracture of the orbital floor. See LeFort fracture.
