Etymology: L, tactus + AS, haer
a hair shaft that is sensitive to the sensation of touch.

tactile hair
hairs sensitive to touch. See also hair (1).
tactile hair organ
a group of vibrissae, such as the carpal organ of cats, made up of four vibrissae on the medial surface of the forelegs, sensitive to vibrations.
tactile percussion
a combination of touch and tap as in ballottement. The objective is to delineate the boundaries of a fetus or organ by a tap or thrust and allow the repelled organ to bounce back onto the fingers.

tactile receptors
located in the skin most are connected to very fast, myelinated nerve fibers.
