sutura serrata

sutura /su·tu·ra/ (soo-tu´rah) pl. sutu´rae   [L.] suture; in anatomy, a type of joint in which the apposed bony surfaces are united by fibrous tissue, permitting no movement; found only between bones of the skull.
sutura denta´ta  s. serrata.
sutura pla´na  a type in which there is simple apposition of the contiguous surfaces, with no interlocking of the edges of the participating bones.
sutura serra´ta  a type in which the participating bones are united by interlocking processes resembling the teeth of a saw.
sutura squamo´sa  a type formed by overlapping of the broad beveled edges of the participating bones.

sutura serrata,
an immovable fibrous joint that is one kind of true suture in which connecting bones interlock along serrated edges that resemble fine-toothed saws. Compare sutura dentata, sutura limbosa.
