superior olivary nucleus Etymology: L, supurus + oliva + nucleus, nut kernel a collection of nerve cells appearing as a clump of gray matter in the pons. The nucleus receives fibers from the cochlear nerve receptors on the same and opposite sides through the trapezoid body.
