The removal of subgingival calculus or ulcerated epithelial and granulomatous tissues from periodontal pockets with a curette.

subgingival curettage,
the debridement of an ulcerated epithelial attachment and subjacent gingival corium to eliminate inflammation and to shrink and restore gingival tissue. See also apical curettage, root curettage.

n the scraling with a curet.
curettage, angle for gingival,
n an angle between 45° and 90° at which the curet should be held against the gingiva to clean out a pocket effectively. See also curettage, subgingival.

n the enucleation, by means of suitable instrumentation, of the inflammatory soft tissue elements lying within and surrounding the crest of an infrabony resorptive defect; also includes the debridement and planing of the root surface of the pocket.

n the debridement and planing to smoothness of the root surface of a tooth to eliminate deposits on the root.
curettage, subgingival,
n the process of debridement of the epithelial attachment, the ulcerated and entire (pocket) epithelium, and subjacent inflamed and altered gingival tissues. The procedure is no longer recommended for the health of the periodontium.

adj at a level apical to the gingival margin.

subgingival curettage,
subgingival irrigation, preanesthetic-antimicrobial,
n a procedure for delivering a liquid antimicrobial agent to a subgingival area before; used to destroy or inhibit the growth of microorganisms and prevent contamination or infection. Not known if effects are long term.

endometrial curettage
physical curettage of the uterus is not practiced in animals but chemical irritation achieves a similar effect and is used in cows. The commonest infusion is an iodine preparation such as Lugol's iodine.
subgingival curettage
aids in the treatment of periodontal disease; consists of removing inflammatory tissue under the free gingival margin and adjacent bony structures.
