Etymology: AS, streccan + L, contractura, drawing together

any of several procedures for release of muscle and other structures that have been shortened because of paralysis, spasm, disuse, or fibrosis. The procedures include stretching exercises, tissue grafts, scar tissue removal, tendon transfer, and incision of a joint capsule.
