the anatomical mechanism in both the fore- and hindlimbs of horses which enable the animal to stand with little or no muscular effort. Efficiency of the apparatus is based on the judicious location of fibrous tissue. Many muscles, ligaments and tendons participate, especially the suspensory ligament, the flexor tendons and their check ligaments, and in the hindlimb, the peroneus tertius and the patellar-locking mechanism.
