1. in abattoir terminology a male animal castrated after it has matured sexually, i.e. more than a year old. Used mostly about cattle beasts or pigs. In rams the age limit is 6 months. In some areas also applied to an unbroken colt more than a year old.

2. to the game hunter an adult male of any of the large deer species.
