the second and fourth metacarpals or metatarsals of the horse that are greatly reduced in size and do not extend as far as the distal end of the third metacarpal.

The British-bred five-year-old has not raced since damaging a near-fore splint bone shortly after winning the Empress Club Stakes at Turffontein in February.
It seems to be a splint bone but we're not sure whether he got a knock on it or it's just active.
Basically, splints are the injury and swelling of the interosseous ligament, which holds the splint bone to the cannon bone.
