n.
A muscle with origin from the supraspinous ligament and the spinous processes of the third to fifth thoracic vertebrae, with insertion into the first and second cervical vertebrae, with nerve supply from the dorsal branches of the fourth to the eighth cervical nerves, and whose action rotates and extends the neck.
