splashback

Forensic pathology Protrusion of tissue from a bullet entrance wound, resulting from the kinetic energy imparted by the bullet; although the tissue surrounding the entrance wound closes over behind the bullet, the gases expanding after the bullet find the path of least resistance for escape, leaving via the entrance wound, pushing out fragments of subcutaneous tissue.
