A person who does not him- or herself possess healing powers, but rather is said to act as a channel for a spirit guide, providing the information from another plane of existence.

Dr L LeShan, an investigator of healing phenomena, has proposed three rules for identifying psychic healers who should not be trusted:
• The healer promises results;
• The healer accepts fees for his services;
• The healer accepts a patient who is not under the care of a physician.
