porencephaly

The presence of one or more abnormal cavities within the substance of the brain, usually communicating with a lateral VENTRICLE. The cavity of a lateral ventricle may extend to the surface of the cerebral hemisphere. The condition may result from brain tissue destruction or maldevelopment.
