Many state Medicaid programs involve managed care plans that have rules about specialty care similar to private insurance plans.
WASHINGTON -- Community health centers, public hospitals, and other safety net providers are seeing a steadily growing number of low-income patients, while specialty care for these patients is becoming scarce, according to the results of a biennial national survey conducted by the Center for Studying Health System Change.
But recently, the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) announced its efforts, in conjunction with Mathematica Policy Research, the American Medical Association (AMA) and the AMA-convened Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement, to advance standards for specialists by releasing for public comment a first step of standards for specialty care.
