spavin diseases of the hock joint. bone spavin osteoarthritis or osteitis of the distal intertarsal and tarsometatarsal joints of the horse. The lesions are those of a degenerative bone disease terminating in the formation of exostoses and in ankylosis of the joint. Lameness is a constant finding. There may or may not be a local bony swelling. spavin knife see Warmberg spavin knife. occult spavin a spavin in which the clinical signs are evident but there is no external bony enlargement. spavin test the horse's hindlimb is held in a flexed position, with the metatarsus parallel to the ground for several minutes.
