Snowboarding A winter sport in which the rider ‘surfs’ down a snow-covered mountain with both feet locked onto a flat waxed board while the upper body is freely mobile
Injuries Distal radial fractures occur in 1:4,000 snowboarding days, and represent 25% of snowboarding injuries—half require surgery; 17% of snowboarding injuries are shoulder fractures; spinal injuries are 3-fold more common in snowboarding than in skiing. Spinal cord injuries are much less common, and primarily affect young, male intermediate to expert boarders.
