sn-1,2-diacylglycerol

sn-1,2-diacylglycerol

second messenger produced from the action of an agonist via G-proteins activating phospholipase C leading to the hydrolysis of phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate to sn-1,2-diacylglycerol and inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate. sn-1,2-Diacylglycerol subsequently activates protein kinase C by greatly increasing the affinity of the enzyme for calcium ions.
