deformity /de·form·i·ty/ (dĕ-for´mĭ-te) distortion of any part or of the body in general.
Åkerlund deformity  an indentation (in addition to the niche) in the duodenal cap in the radiograph in duodenal ulcer.
Arnold-Chiari deformity  protrusion of the cerebellum and medulla oblongata down into the spinal canal through the foramen magnum.
Madelung's deformity  radial deviation of the hand secondary to overgrowth of the distal ulna or shortening of the radius.
reduction deformity  congenital absence of a portion or all of a body part, especially of the limbs.
silver fork deformity  the deformity seen in Colles' fracture.
Sprengel's deformity  congenital elevation of the scapula, due to failure of descent of the scapula to its normal thoracic position during fetal life.
Volkmann's deformity  see under disease.

Etymology: L, deformis, misshapen
distortion, disfigurement, flaw, malformation, or misshape that affects the body in general or any part of it. It may be the result of disease, injury, or birth defect. Examples include Arnold-Chiari deformity, in which a part of the brain protrudes through the base of the skull into the spinal canal, and seal-fin deformity, characterized by a deviation of the fingers as an effect of rheumatoid arthritis.

Q. My son is complaining about back pain. I also see that his back isn't straight. What can we do? My son is a adorable 8 years old. He is complaining about back pain, that bothers him after he walks a little. I also saw that his back isn't straight and looks like a S. is this deformity connected to his back pain?

A. The normal shape of the spine is very similar to the "S" shape as you can see here

But even if his back isn't deformated, he has back pain and you need to take care of that by going to your pediatrician.
