silicone-hydrogel lens, a soft contact lens made of a polymer that contains silicone, which is permeable to oxygen, so that large amounts of oxygen are transmitted to the cornea. Such lenses contain less water than traditional soft lenses and so are more resistant to dehydration and less prone to harbor bacteria and protein deposits. Some are designed to be worn continuously for extended periods, up to 30 days for some types. How to thank TFD for its existence?
