an organizational framework proposed by Tim Porter-O’Grady that provides for the full use of nursing resources. This system is designed to reflect the professional character of the participants in the nursing organization and to promote certain positive behaviors and practices. The purpose of shared governance is the establishment of a system in which staff participate fully in all activities that have an impact on their work and their ultimate goal of meaningful patient care. shared governance an organizational model used on nursing divisions, consisting of a decentralized system of management in which all of the nurses make decisions.
