shaker dogs a syndrome of generalized muscle tremors, aggravated by excitement or handling, seen most often in young, mature dogs of the West Highland White and Maltese breeds. The cause is unknown but an acquired immunological disease involving cells that metabolize tyrosine to produce neurotransmitting substances is suspected. Called also generalized tremor syndrome.
