sem·i·per·me·a·ble (sm-pûrm--bl, sm-)
adj.
1. Partially permeable.
2. Allowing passage of certain, especially small, molecules or ions but acting as a barrier to others. Used of biological and synthetic membranes.

Etymology: L, semi, half, permeare, to pass through
pertaining to a membrane that allows the passage of some molecules but prevents the passage of others. Also selectively permeable.
