Overactivity of the sebaceous glands, resulting in an excessive amount of sebum.

seborrhoea

Excessive secretion of SEBUM. This causes an oily appearance of the skin, especially of the face, and a greasy scalp. Seborrhoea also predisposes to ACNE. The cause is uncertain, male sex hormones (androgens) are involved. Seborrhoea usually settles without treatment.
